Betty Hiday attends church with an employee of Brownsburg Meadows. That is how she learned about pre-surgery planning for Brownsburg Meadows’ Moving Forward Rehabilitation Program. Betty and her daughter came to tour Brownsburg Meadows prior to her surgery and decided that Brownsburg Meadows was the place where she would like to complete her rehabilitation program after undergoing knee replacement surgery.
For two years prior to having surgery, Betty had been experiencing pain in her knees when walking. She underwent knee replacement surgery at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville. After her surgery, Betty came to Brownsburg Meadows and immediately began her rehabilitation program. Betty received Physical and Occupational Therapy five days a week during her stay at Brownsburg Meadows. Betty was able to complete her program within 14 days and return home safely.
Betty says, "I had a good stay. The therapy department was wonderful, and all of the staff was very caring, helpful and friendly. The staff was on top of it. If I ever need to have rehabilitation in the future, I would not hesitate to return to Brownsburg Meadows!"
Brownsburg Meadows would like to take this opportunity to share a success story with you on Clive Hoskins. Mr. Hoskins first admitted to Brownsburg Meadows after undergoing knee replacement surgery at Clarian West. He had a long-standing history of knee pain and putting weight on it or twisting it caused the pain to worsen. Mr. Hoskins had undergone multiple steroid injections as well as collagen injections with out much improvementHe decided it was time to do something more to relive the pain and elected to have knee replacement surgery.
After surgery, it was recommended to Mr. Hoskins to have Physical and Occupational therapy to increase his strength, safety and monitor any pain. Brownsburg Meadows was happy to be the short-term rehab facility of choice!
Mr. Hoskins received daily physical and occupational therapy throughout his 10-day stay. He was able to return home safely with his wife and returns to Brownsburg Meadows for outpatient therapy. His post surgery recovery as well as therapy went so well earlier this year that Mr. Hoskins opted to have his other knee replaced. Again, another successful surgery with successful therapy to follow at Brownsburg Meadows.
Why does Clive keep coming back for short-term therapy at Brownsburg Meadows?
"It’s the Best! I have been here twice and it’s the best. If I ever need anything else down the road, I’ll be back!"
Bill Roach is an individual who knows that with patience and perseverance, small things blossom into big and wonderful packages. Bill has been a builder and developer all his life and has witnessed the formation of elegant and long lasting homes which begin with a single brick. He built numerous customs houses and was instrumental in the construction of four hundred condominiums in Brownsburg. Mr. Roach’s talent and expertise have been sought by communities such as Seymour, Columbus, De Motte, Crawfordsville, Pittsboro and Greenfield among others and were greatly utilized during his tenure as President of various groups such as Builder’s Association of Indianapolis and Indiana State Builder’s Association. Bill officially retired from building and development in 1994; however, he continues to lay the ground work towards his goal to achieve his best health at 73 years old and has taken a giant leap closer to this goal when he joined the Brownsburg Meadows New Energy Wellness Program. Bill Roach attended the Brownsburg Meadows open house for the community and learned about its New Energy Wellness Program. He began his work out at Brownsburg Meadows New Energy Wellness unaware that the program would be one of the driving forces towards helping him feel better inside and out. "The Brownsburg Meadows New Energy Wellness Program has helped me in so many ways”, says Bill. "As a individual with Parkinson’s for over ten years, it has been a great source of quality exercise and conditioning." The program enables Bill to gain the much needed strength, endurance and flexibility that allow him to adjust around the limitations brought upon by his condition. His mobility has greatly improved that it has greatly reduced his risks for falls. Mr. Roach has been battling not only with Parkinson’s disease but with fluctuating and often high blood pressures and unsteadiness as well. However, since he joined the program almost three years ago, Bill has achieved stable blood pressure and has steadily improved his strength and balance. His doctor also recognized these positive changes and is greatly pleased. Bill’s health and fitness has not experienced any decline or worsening since 2007 that his doctor has not made significant changes to his medications.
The Brownsburg Meadows New Energy Wellness program’s three days per week regimen has provided a much appreciated routine and consistency to a retiree’s life such as Bill. It encourages Bill to continue to enjoy an active lifestyle and remain fairly busy even after retirement. It motivates Bill to start each day early and work hard at achieving good health through a well planned, structured exercise regimen. As Mr. Roach puts it, "If Chad (Brownsburg Meadows New Energy Wellness Coordinator) can make it in bad weather from Noblesville, I can surely make the effort to get there from several blocks way." "Chad is always mentally and physically up there no matter what the weather is like”, adds Bill. Chad has become one of the sources of motivation and inspiration to Bill to persevere and keep at it as he grows older. His decision to join the program almost three years ago not only provides Mr. Roach with a workout routine each week; but introduced him to other activities that Brownsburg Meadows Facility and its New Energy Program offer throughout the year. Bill states that activities for seniors such as the Christmas Luncheon, Casino Outing and VA Benefits Meeting "helped ease the winter doldrums."
